UPMC MERCY HOSPITAL

UPMC has embarked on a mission of providing the latest state-of-the-art vision and rehabilitation medical facility that will offer vison care, rehabilitation, and ophthalmic research.

Wellington Power Corporation – Telecommunications Division was selected by UPMC for the Vision and Rehabilitation Tower because of a longstanding and successful relationship, trusting them for the $400M communications, infrastructure, video surveillance system, intrusion detection, and access control system project.

The project includes construction of the 10-story, 893,000 SF vision and rehabilitation tower, as well as a 483,000 SF parking garage with 2 underground levels and 6 aboveground levels. The balance of work includes research labs, rehabilitation center, general office space, vivarium, conference rooms, and surgery and procedure rooms connecting directly to UPMC’s existing Mercy Hospital.

Wellington’s portion includes:

  • 21,300 LF of fiber optic cable
  • 1,400,000 LF of category 6A data cable
  • 3,500 LF of coax cable
  • 31,550 LF of copper backbone cable
  • 140,000 LF of security cable
  • Build-out of 23 data closets
  • Installation of 550 wireless access points
  • Installation of 388 security cameras
  • Installation of access control for 511 doors
